Summary of Christmas Break

New school session is about to begin. Indeed, it's just 2 days from now.

I am still waiting for the grades of the last two courses that i took, LAN Switching and IP protocols, to be released. I am kind of worried about the grades because i didn't do so well on them. The final exams were tough, and i couldn't finish all the questions. The only thing that comforts me is that a number of my classmates didn't do well either. Don't forget, only grades of 70% or above are considered as a "PASS".

Life isn't easy.

During this christmas break, I've done a number of things, mainly entertaining things. I played resident evil 4 and boardgame Molopoly, then watched a new refilmed film--King Kong.

King Kong impressed me in a positve way. Usually refilm films are not as good as the original ones, thus, I usually are not interested in them. I went to that movie just because i found it was a 3 hour moive, which means it could good. See, here is the point. Since my birth, I used to believe a film should be around 2 hours, otherwise the film makers are just cutting the production cost to make more money with less capital. In the last 7 years or so, most Hollywood films are just 90 mins in length. I started to hate those film makers, and to feel the degeneracy of film industry.

Here is something that I need to clarify. I never mean long films were good, nor short films were bad. I remember the saying, "i don't have so much time, thus i am writing a short letter to you". Right, sometimes writing a shorter article that provides the same quality (in terms of clearness to the main points) is harder and more effective than writing a longer one. Thus, it need to be encouraged.

Today's Hollywood films are a bit different. First, the characteristics of an article and a film is different. An article is shorten so that it more effective and powerful. Each words is important, just a heavy punch to the reader's mind. On the other hand, a film is different from an article because a story isn't just a story. A story should have people and events. Events isn't just events, they are also mechanisms that are used to sculpture the minds of the people, to make the characters more realistics. Thus, shortening the films appears to be unneccessary, but even violating. Second, it is fine to me that some films are shorter than 2 hours if there is no need to add the unnecessary ingrediance into the stories. But I am talking about most films are becoming shorter. The numbers are too unbalanced to make me believe it is merely a coincidence. Thus, I am thinking the film makers are intentionally making shorter films. There are other things i want to mention here, but i am tired. Just stop here.

Anyway, King Kong is actually a good film. It maintains the classic story and the relationship between the Beast and the Beauty, while it has some new sub-stories. Yeah, the wild-men, dinasours, and giant bugs made me hold my breath.

Gotta Watch It Again If I Have A Chance!!
